SMS notifications

Get a text when it matters most.

Overview

When a critical incident hits — your site goes down, your SSL certificate expires, your domain lapses — you need to know immediately. SMS notifications send a text message straight to your phone so you can act before your customers even notice.

SMS is available on Pro and Business plans. If you're on Free or Starter, upgrade to Pro or above to turn it on.

SMS notifications work alongside email and Slack, not instead of them. Your team still gets email alerts and Slack messages (if connected). SMS means the person on call gets a text in their pocket, not just a notification in a browser tab.

Setting up SMS

You'll need to be a team owner or admin to set up SMS, and your team needs to be on a Pro or Business plan. Once configured, SMS alerts are shared by the whole team.

  1. Make sure you're on Pro or Business

SMS is included with Pro and Business plans. Check your current plan in your billing settings, and upgrade if you need to.

  2. Open notification settings

Head to Team settings → Notifications. You'll see collapsible panels for each notification channel: Email, Slack, and SMS.

  3. Expand the SMS panel

Click the SMS panel to expand it. If SMS isn't available on your plan, you'll see a prompt to upgrade instead.

  4. Enter your phone number

Type in your mobile number, including the country code (e.g. +44 for the UK). Click Send verification code to continue.

  5. Verify with the code

You'll receive a six-digit code by text message. Enter it to confirm the number is yours. Once verified, SMS alerts are active straight away.

Didn't get the code?

Double-check you entered the right number with the correct country code. If it still doesn't arrive after a minute or two, try again. The code is valid for a short time, so enter it promptly.

What triggers an SMS

SMS notifications are reserved for critical incidents only — the kind that need someone's attention right now.

NotificationWhen it's sent
Urgent alertA site goes down, an SSL certificate expires, or a domain lapses
ResolvedThe critical incident is over and the site is back to normal

Lower-severity issues (slow response times, certificates expiring soon) are handled by email and Slack. This keeps SMS focused on genuine emergencies so you never learn to ignore it.

Recognising DomainDash texts

SMS messages are sent from the DomainDash sender identity. Any links in the message use the short URL dash.support to keep texts concise — these link straight back to your DomainDash dashboard.

Changing your settings

Once SMS is set up, you can manage it from the same notification settings page.

Turning incident alerts on or off

Expand the SMS panel in your notification settings. You'll see a toggle for incident notifications. Turn it off if you'd rather only receive alerts by email and Slack, and back on when you want texts again.

Changing your phone number

To update the number, disconnect the current one and set up SMS again with the new number. Head to Team settings → Notifications, expand the SMS panel, and click Disconnect. Then follow the setup steps again with your new number.

Disconnecting SMS

If you want to stop receiving text messages entirely, expand the SMS panel in your notification settings and click Disconnect. This removes the phone number and turns off all SMS alerts. You can set it up again at any time.

Who can manage SMS?

Team owners and admins can set up, configure, and disconnect SMS. Everyone else on the team can see that SMS is configured but can't change the number or settings.
