Your data and GDPR rights
You're in control of the personal data DomainDash holds about you. Here's what we keep, the rights you have over it, and how to act on them.
The data we hold about you
To run your account and check your sites, we hold a small amount of personal data: your name, email address, timezone, the domain names you ask us to check, and your billing details (card payments are handled securely by Stripe — we never store your card number). Depending on the features you use, we may also hold your mobile number (if you turn on SMS alerts), the email addresses of people you invite to your team, and the details needed to deliver alerts to a connected Slack workspace. If a visitor subscribes to one of your public status pages, we hold their email address until the incident they're following is resolved. We also keep some technical information, such as your IP address, in our security logs to keep accounts safe. We hold only what we need, we never sell it, and we never use it to train models.
Our privacy policy is the full, formal account of what we collect, why, where it's stored, and for how long. This page is the friendly version: your rights, and how to use them.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your data — get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct it — put right anything that's wrong or incomplete.
- Delete it — ask us to erase your personal data.
- Export it — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format you can take elsewhere.
- Restrict — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Object — object to a particular use of your data, where we rely on legitimate interest.
The privacy policy sets out each of these rights in full legal terms. You can use any of them at any time, and it's free in almost every case.
What you can do yourself
You don't need to wait on us for the most common changes — you can make them in DomainDash right away:
- Correct your details. Update your name, email, timezone, and mobile number on your profile at any time.
- Delete your data. Deleting your account erases your personal data — see below.
For a copy or an export of your data, or a deletion you'd rather we handled for you, make a data request.
Making a data request
If you'd like a copy of your data, an export, a correction, or a deletion handled by us, just ask. There's no special form, and you don't need to mention any law.
- Decide what you'd like to do
Work out which right you want to use — a copy of your data, a correction, an export, or deletion. Being specific about which data or time period you mean helps us get back to you faster, but a broad request is fine too.
- Email us
Send your request to inbox@domaindash.io. Tell us what you'd like in your own words.
- Confirm it's you
We may ask for a little information to confirm your identity, so we only ever share your data with you. The clock on your request starts once we have what we need.
- We respond within one month
We'll handle your request and get back to you within one month. In almost every case there's no charge.
Especially complex requests
Most requests are handled well within a month. If a request is unusually complex, data protection law allows us up to two further months — but we'll always tell you within the first month if that applies, and why.
Deleting your account
Deleting your account is the quickest way to erase your personal data. You'll find it in the danger zone at the bottom of your profile page: click Delete account, then type your email address to confirm.
This permanently removes your personal data and takes you out of every team you belong to. It's then fully erased from our systems — including encrypted backups, which rotate on a regular cycle — within 30 days.
Deleting your account can't be undone
Deletion is permanent. If you own a team, sort the team out first — move the work elsewhere or delete the team — because ownership can't be transferred. See profile settings for the full walkthrough.
Where your data is kept
Your account data is stored in the European Economic Area, and we hold it only for as long as your account is active. Some of the processors we rely on — such as Stripe for payments, Slack for alerts you've connected, and our database provider's support team — may handle or access data outside the EEA, always under appropriate safeguards. Check data (your uptime history, SSL records, and so on) is kept according to your plan's retention period — see plans and pricing for how long each plan keeps it. The privacy policy covers retention, international transfers, and the processors we work with in full.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a data request?
Email inbox@domaindash.io and tell us what you'd like — a copy of your data, a correction, an export, or deletion. You don't need any special form or wording. We may confirm your identity first, then respond within one month.
How long does a data request take?
We respond within one month of receiving your request. If a request is especially complex, data protection law allows us up to two further months — but we'll always tell you within the first month if that's the case, and why.
Does it cost anything to make a data request?
No. In almost every case making a data request is free. We may only charge a reasonable fee, or decline, if a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive — for example, repeated requests for the same information.
How do I delete my data?
Delete your account from the danger zone at the bottom of your profile page. This permanently removes your personal data and takes you out of every team. It's then fully erased from our systems, including encrypted backups, within 30 days.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes. Email inbox@domaindash.io and we'll provide a copy of the personal data we hold about you, in a structured, machine-readable format if you'd like to move it elsewhere.
